A very warm welcome to the latest update from Teesside University Students' Union (TUSU). We get in touch every month during the academic year with our latest news and events unless you ask us to stop by unsubscribing.
In this edition, we are looking ahead to all the drama and excitement of our annual Student Officer Elections. They decide the next three people who are elected by the student body to lead TUSU and represent ALL Teesside Uni students from July 2025.
You will be able to see personal statements from all of the candidates for the roles of President Education, International and Wellbeing on the elections minisite from Tue, 25th February, and you can hear from them and ask questions in person at the Meet The Candidates event on Thu, 27th February which will also be streamed live on facebook.com/teessidesu and instagram.com/teessidesu. We wish every candidate the very best with their respective campaigns.
The elections article further down has much more info and lots of good reasons to take a few seconds to vote on Mon, 3rd March. We simply remind you that we and the next Student Officer team are here to serve you! It is the Officer's duty to ensure your SU is run properly on your behalf, and we are your voice to the most senior figures at the Uni, including the Board of Governors, The Vice-Chancellor, and his top team. It WILL matter to you at some point who holds the roles, and even if you do not engage with TUSU much at present we would urge you to have your say! It is quick and simple, but it WILL matter!
Alongside elections there is lots, lots more going on this month! All of our core campaigns are back up and running, so if you see us around campus, make sure you give us your feedback and tell us how we can make your student life even better. There is also a great range of day and evening events to enjoy in the TUSU Building and at other venues and locations.
And, if you have not before, why not give the TUSU Podcast a watch or listen. We have a new episode most months, and we were delighted to be joined by the Mayor of Middlesbrough, Chris Cooke for the latest edition!
We wish you another safe, happy month, and we hope that, however things are going, TUSU (Found opposite The Curve and beside TU Library in Campus Heart) is right at the heart of your student life.
Teesside University Students' Union (TUSU) is led by students for students, and from Thursday, 27th February to Wednesday, 5th March, it is time for Teesside Uni students to have your say about the next President Education, International and Wellbeing.
The TUSU Elections decide who gets paid to work full-time from July 2025, leading TUSU and representing all TU students. The people who win will be the face and voice of the student body for at least 12 months, and it will be their job to ensure YOUR SU is being run properly. They are also responsible for ensuring your voice is heard by the most senior figures at the Uni, including The Board of Governors, the Vice-Chancellor and his top team.
Why should I vote? Why will it matter to me?
I do not know who to vote for?
How do I cast a vote? Will it take long?
When will the winners be announced?
TUSU offers a great range of day and evening events throughout the academic year, which are open to ALL Teesside Uni students. We also do our best to deliver them free or at very low cost whenever possible!

As Semester 2 progresses, the Student Officers and staff from our departments are back out with a range of campaign activities and events focusing on academic issues, wellbeing and gathering your feedback.
Here are just some of the upcoming highlights. Stay tuned to our social media and website for more info.
It was wonderful to meet new students during the School Rep drop-in day at Refreshers. We hope that all our returning students are adjusting well to semester two. This semester, we have three exciting new members joining our School Rep team. We are pleased to welcome Ebo Arthur (TU London), Memsy Esiet (SCEDT), and Jordane Monica Tedou (TUIBS).
In the past month, we have also welcomed over 20 new Course Representatives. Remember, there should be a Course Representative for each course who can assist with course-related feedback and represent your views in meetings with academic staff. If you are unsure who your Course Rep is, please check with your course leader or reach out to us via email.
Next month, your School and Course Representatives will participate in an annual meeting with the University Executive Team. If you have any questions for the team or would like us to present your feedback at the meeting, please send your thoughts to representation@tees-su.org.uk. Alternatively, we would be happy to arrange an in-person meeting or connect via Microsoft Teams.
We continue to offer sessions for you to connect with us both online and on the main campus. If you are unable to attend any of our scheduled sessions, don't hesitate to email representation@tees-su.org.uk, and the appropriate School Rep team will get back to you.
The Terrace (1st floor, TUSU Building) is open seven days a week during the semester. We hope everyone is having a great Semester 2 so far, but if for any reason you need advice and support, remember that TUSU is here to help! Our SU Student Support (SUSS) service (1st floor, TUSU Building) is run by experienced, professional advisers who specialise in issues around your academic experience and can help with accommodation problems too.
In the event they cannot help you with something, they will do their best to sign post you to a university or external service who can.

The National Student Student Survey (NSS) is a chance for Teesside University students who are in their final year and studying on a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications; you may be eligible to complete the NSS.
Both the University and TUSU pay close attention to the feedback, and it has a real impact on the change and improvement we each make. You could also help your course cohort win a very special graduation package, so make sure you spare a few minutes to give your feedback.
Did you know TUSU has an official podcast with new episodes in most months of the academic year! It is a chance to hear from your Student Officers in depth, find out what has been happening and get a preview of what is coming up at TUSU! The fun-packed holiday special is now available; make sure you check it out!
We also regularly have special guests, including TUSU staff and senior figures from the University, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Mayor of Middlesbrough, no less!
Check out the latest episodes and access the archive through tees-su.org.uk/podcasts.
