A very warm welcome to the latest update from Teesside University Students’ Union (TUSU), we get in touch every month during the academic year with our latest news and events unless you ask us to stop by unsubscribing.
We want to start by wishing everyone a happy and successful New Year and we hope you got at least some time to relax and recharge over the holidays. We’re excited to meet new and returning students in the coming weeks and we hope to see as many of you as possible in the TUSU Building, which can be found opposite The Curve and beside Teesside University Library in Campus Heart.
In this edition, we’re looking forward to the main week of day and evening activities and events for TUSU Refresh. A perfect way to get support, make new friends and settle in or back into uni life as Semester 2 gets underway.
And even though it might mean some of us lose our jobs this summer, we hope as many people as possible consider running in the TUSU Elections. You can enter as a candidate from Mon, 17th to Fri, 21st Feb so the clock is ticking. Now is the time to ensure you really understand the role you are running for and considered if now is the right time to stand and built up your knowledge of all aspects of the Students’ Union.
We can tell you from our own experience that being a President is an amazing opportunity BUT it’s also very hard work and requires a range of key characteristics and skills so make sure you do your prep and homework before you run!
We hope you have a great month but remember that however things are going, TUSU is here to support you and provide a range of events, services and spaces.
We’ve already been welcoming new students at induction talks and events but from Mon, 20th to Friday, 24th January we have a dedicated week of day and evening activities where all students can
Check out everything that’s coming up through the TUSU Refresh page and make sure you join us in the TUSU Building (Opposite The Curve and beside Teesside Uni Library) whenever you can!
Teesside University Students' Union (TUSU) is led by students for students, and from Monday, 17th February most current enrolled student at the Uni* can run in our elections to find the next three people who oversee how it's run on behalf of all students. You will also represent them to the most senior figures at the institution such as the Board of Governors and Vice-Chancellor along with his top team.
These are paid, full-time opportunities to make a real difference and gain the kind of experience and skills other students can only dream about, and you can now get full information on running in the elections and the rules by which they are run on tees-su.org.uk/elections. It also include a timeline of key dates that potential candidates need to be aware of and tasks you must complete to enter the elections race.
Most importantly, it provides a full summary of the roles and responsibilities of each of the three Student Officer roles, which you should read carefully if you are thinking of running.
Before all that, though, we would urge anyone who is already considering running for a role (you may only stand for ONE of the positions) to email: elections@tees-su.org.uk with your initial questions and to consider the following carefully:
PLEASE NOTE: There are a range of circumstances which may prevent a student from participating in the elections and becoming a Trustee of TUSU, even if they are fully enrolled. We will have full details of these on the elections web page and can also offer confidential advice if you have questions about your eligibility through the elections email account.
We are a Students' Union who pride ourselves on running "real world" campaigns that focus on the issues of most importance to Teesside University students.
As Semester 2 progresses the Student Officers and staff from our departments will be back out with a range of campaign activities and events focusing on academic issues, wellbeing and gathering your feedback.
Here’s just some of the upcoming highlights. Stay tuned to our social media and website for more info.
We hope everyone is having a great start to Semester 2 but if for any reason you need advice and support remember that TUSU is here to help! Our SU Student Support (SUSS) service (1st floor, TUSU Building) is run by experienced, professional advisers who specialise in issues around your academic experience and can help with accommodation problems too.
In the event they cannot help you with something, they will do their best to sign post you to a university or external service who can.
The National Student Student Survey (NSS) is a chance for Teesside University students who are in their final year and studying on a course leading to undergraduate credits or qualifications you may be eligible to complete the NSS.
Both the University and TUSU pay close attention to the feedback, and it has a real impact on the change and improvement we each make. You could also help your course cohort win a very special graduation package so make sure you spare a few minutes to give your feedback.
Did you know TUSU has an official podcast with new episodes in most months of the academic year! It's a chance to hear from your Student Officers in depth, find out what's been happening and get a preview of what's coming up at TUSU!
